Prof.
Alladi Uma, the worthy daughter of the worthy father late Sri Alladi Kuppuswami
, the former chief justice of high court was
given an award by Ramineni Foundation for her service to the cause of
education on 12 October,2012 at
Visakhapatnam.
Professor
Uma stands as a symbol of hope and
courage in the present scenario. She has been an erudite professor, committed
researcher , able translator and a compassionate person to the core. Her
inspiration has been her parents and her aunt who taught her the love of the story and
imagination and she dedicated her award
to them.
As a
professor she has given nectar of knowledge to many batches of students in
Osmania University and later at University of Hyderabad in her illustrious career stretching over
three decades.
As a
researcher she wrote many articles and books and also encouraged many of her
students to develop their original thinking. ‘Excellence’ was her watchword.
As a
compassionate human being she has been imparting education to the children of
the poor and disadvantaged sections studying in government schools. Her
generosity is natural and her modesty
impressive since she had to be persuaded
by the jury to accept
the award.
To
her, teaching profession was not for
survival or career but to express her passion for certain core values which she cherished deeply. Recently she took voluntary
retirement from teaching position.
Her
translated works such as ‘Ayonija’ and ‘Untouchable Spring’ (in collaboration
with Prof.Sridhar) testify to her concern for social progress.
She
has been charting through her life with
indefatigable spirit and work ethics.
All the best in her
future endeavours to the cause of society and education.
100% hopeful that her isnpired ones (among her students and other acquaintances) would reach higher levels of social conciousness that matters to the service of the needy. Thank you for posting. Raju Gogulam (rgogulam@gmail.com)
